Her color-soaked oil paintings are inspired by the uptick in super-sized weather systems, spontaneous planetary fluctuations and man-made interventions and manipulations. Stubblefield’s imagery is informed by site visits, forensic photography, and first-hand accounts of these environments. Stubblefield takes visual cues for her imagery from diagnostic tools found on both the internet and television, as well as physical evidence found and documented on-site. Not only does she both photographs and videos events in real-time, she records aftermath visuals of discarded trees, knotted rebar, chunked concrete, mangled clothes, deconstructed architecture and disused vehicle parts, interwoven, tangled and refigured in space.
