Jeff Peters is a master of magical realism, drawing from what he admits is a duel fascination and mistrust of beauty. His paintings are strongly tied to craft, mixing unique color stories, not to be repeated, with inspiration ranging from the whole of fashion history to hints of high-contrast print ephemera, a summer novel, a fleeting moment. There is a romantic narrative that ties the work together. An understanding of the complex feelings that often accompany aesthetics. A Hermes scarf and the colors contained within pulled into the memory of standing under an apple tree at dusk.
Peters currently works out of a studio in Costa Mesa, CA. His work is in the permanent collection of the Laguna Art Museum (Laguna Beach, CA), and has been featured at the Irvine Fine Arts Center (Irvine, CA) and the California State University’s Dominguez Hills Art Gallery (Carson, CA), among others.
