Le Brea between Beverly and 3rd has long been an vibrant section of Hollywood to explore, with new shops and restaurants opening up and old standbys continuing to draw a loyal crowd. In the midst of the buzz, an exciting project about to launch has been the restoration of the old Continental Graphics building, which sits between 1st & 2nd street. Part of “District La Brea” re-use development project, the upper floors of the building are being outfitted to hold the new offices of the creative & marketing powerhouse Troika and already they have established their presence with the installation of three large-scale pieces from Cuban artist Esterio Segura’s iconic series Goodbye My Love. Created by hand out of fiberglass by the artist in his Havana studio, bright red airplane wings burst from either side of giant hearts, spanning 14 feet from tip to tip, hovering in formation as if ready to fly off towards the hills.
saltfineart worked with the Irvine-based installer Alan Scott who personally hung each plane along with the artist and a crew over the course of two days. Troika was on hand to document the entire process, taking these interesting pictures of the work being permanently placed in its new home.
