DAPHNE UNDRESSES, as an homage to the passionate pursuit of beauty and the transformations that are possible through collaboration and design.
The work of Cecilia Paredes is a performance photograph inspired by the Greco-Roman myth of Daphne and Apollo. In the myth, Daphne is pursued by a love-struck Apollo until out of desperation she calls to her father, the river god Peneus, who transformed her into a laurel tree. In the performance photograph, the artist Cecilia Paredes paints her body to match the tapestry around her, a transformation that mirrors that of Daphne.
Featuring works of sculpture by Mauricio Cortes (Mexico) and performance photography by Cecilia Paredes (Peru) this immersive installation also highlights furniture designed exclusively by Jen Sampson Design and fabrics from Temperley London x Romo. Alice Temperly designed the gown that Daphne removes before stepping into the artwork.
