SALT FINE ART | PANORAMAS

Three renowned female photographers comment on their world
CECILIA PAREDES, ANA MERCEDES HOYOS and CINTHYA SOTO

May 5 – June 30, 2011
Opening reception Thursday May 5, 2011 6 – 9 pm

Saltfineart initiates a visual conversation amongst work by aesthetic giants, all artists having shown in prestigious biennials, belong in impressive permanent collections and each has, in their 20, 30 and 50 year careers, exhibited widely all over the globe and enjoyed tremendous critical acclaim.

Paredes uses her body as canvas, painting herself into backgrounds of damask and traditional chintz.  But she never completely blends– never becomes mere decoration.  In 2010 alone she was awarded a Fulbright and a solo show at the Museum of Modern Art Moscow.

Hoyos is recognized as one of the most outstanding artists in present day Colombia – with solo exhibitions in New York, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Mexico City and Buenos Aires. Peter Frank recently wrote of her photographs,

“…Hoyos realizes in translating what her eye (or camera) sees into what her hand (or brush or pen) renders, her photos exhibit logically and in dynamic contrast with her other work.”

Soto relentlessly interrogates and extends the limits of photography, often incorporating her work into multi-media installations that proffer the illusion of time and sensual experience.  The pieces to be exhibited include photographs of painted trump d’oeil murals, imparting the illusion of a double reality or worlds within worlds. She has enjoyed solo shows in Quito, Italy, Spain and Costa Rica, collective exhibits in Europe, the U.S., Taiwan, Central and South America, and participated in several prestigious biennials, including the renowned Venice Biennial. In 2010 she was accredited PROJETS DE CREATION ARTISTIQUE by the prestigous Musée du Auai Branly.

While each of these artists’ images are a  must see on their own, it is the vision to juxtapose the three that creates the most interesting view.
