ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Professional Gallery + Student Mentoring Program is a collaboration between Laguna Beach First Thursdays Art Walk (FTAW) and Laguna College of Art + Design (LCAD) which pairs LCAD senior students in the Fine Arts Professional Studies class with galleries throughout Laguna Beach. The program is designed to demonstrate the intricacies involved in the business of operating a gallery where the gallery exhibits student art on its website and on its walls. All works are available for purchase, with proceeds going to the student artists and the LCAD Scholarship Fund.

Join us starting Thursday, April 4 for a virtual exhibition on our website and Instagram as we introduce our student artists Adrienne Godet and Xochitl Leal-Bailon.

ABOUT ADRIENNE GODET

Originally from Anchorage Alaska, Adrienne Godet has experienced a life of contrasts with an intimate knowledge of the joys and sorrows that accompany human existence. The allegorical underpinnings of her work are rooted in religious themes that expand beyond the reaches of conventional theological storytelling. Through a meticulous blending of contemporary culture (gold teeth, references to AI) and historical references (Baroque, Mannerism, Renaissance) Godet’s work has a timeless quality that incorporates massive themes organized visually through a keen understanding of composition and masterful rendering. In Godet’s work, nothing beautiful or terrifying is off-limits.

ABOUT XOCHITL LEAL-BAILON

Los Angeles native Xochitl Leal-Bailon is interested in the ways representation of Chicana women connects the viewer to a lost sense of identity rooted in cultural traditions that shift with the movement of people across space and time. Her compositions are dreamlike renditions of high-baroque portraiture with a sense of rebellion and honor to the individual as they exist beyond the realms of social and cultural norms. Her work proposes a balance between reverence for tradition and space created for new perspectives brought forth by new generations who can choose what aspects of their culture they bring forward and what they choose to leave behind. There is power and choice in Leal-Bailon’s subjects and a real sense of purpose in the unapologetic beauty that surrounds them.
